Birthday Without Them (Honouring Their Day)

When to Use It: On their birthday, or in the days leading up to it, when the ache sharpens and the date feels sacred.
Why It Matters: Grief doesn’t cancel celebration; it transforms it. A birthday can still be a day of presence, not absence.

Steps:

  1. Light a candle or bake a cake, even a small one.

  2. Say their name out loud. Honour who they were.

  3. Share a memory with someone, or write one down.

  4. Do something they loved; a walk, a song, a favourite meal.

  5. Let both joy and sorrow sit side by side.

Optional Add-Ons:

  • Write them a birthday card.

  • Donate or gift something in their honour.

  • Start a new tradition in their name.

Blessing:
“You were born into this world on this day, and the world was better for it. I celebrate your life, even as I grieve your death.”
