The Year After Kahlia is a memoir–psychology–writing hybrid for surviving the unthinkable.

It follows the twelve months after my daughter Kahlia died by suicide in April 2024, weaving together story, grief science, and the writing practices that kept me breathing when nothing made sense.

This isn’t a tidy story about “moving on.” It’s an honest record of what grief does to a body, a mind, a family – and how putting words on the page can help you stay here when staying feels impossible.

“I live in words. They used to be my oxygen. Now they are just symbols I can’t make sense of. But I have been able to read yours. You’ve captured language that evades me, and have given me the words to express the place I find myself in.”
— Jamie

What people have said

“It is a privilege to read about Kahlia… a privilege to be a witness to your life.”

“Your love is present on every page… you’ve created space for normalising grief.”

“Thank you for normalising it and remembering with me. It’s nice to walk alongside others who fully get it.”

This isn’t a book you need to read all at once.
You can come to it slowly, in pieces, as you’re able.
